Sonmin no hama beach is located in Nakijin Village in the northern part of the main island of Okinawa.
The beach is characterized by clear water and beautiful white sand.
Because this beach is artificial beach, it is shallow and the waves are calm, making it relatively safe to swim.
Even during the summer season, there are not that many customers, and most of the customers are local families, making it a popular beach for families.

When I actually visited the beach, there were no protective nets and no lifeguard.
Recommended Points
Beautiful Beach
The sandy beach that continues for about 500m is very beautiful, and there are people taking a rest and swimming on the beach.
When I visited the beach, it looked like the following image.
The weather was bad & the pumice stones did not allow me to take very good pictures.
Normally it is a very beautiful beach.
Good Rest Space
There are covered benches along the beach where you can rest in the shade.
The jetty is beautiful
There is a jetty at the beach.
Although it looks like an artificial beach, it is beautifully paved with stones.
Restroom and showers are provided
There are restroom and showers at the beach.
Precautions
There were signs with rules for using the beach, so please follow the rules when using the beach.

Parking is free of charge.
There are two parking lots, one on the beach side and the other on the Sports Park side.
The following image shows the both parking lots.
Please note the closing time of the parking lot on the villagers’ beach side.

- Closing time from November to March: 18:00
The following image shows the parking lot on the Sports Park side.
You can park either way, but we recommend the parking lot on the beach side because it is closer to the beach.

Kouri Island
Kouri Island is famous as a tourist spot.
There are beautiful beaches and sightseeing spots.
So we recommend following three places when you go to Nakijin Village.

- Kouri Island
- Tine beach (Heart Rock)
It takes about 15 minutes by car from Sonmin no hama beach to Kouri Island.
Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium
Churaumi Aquarium is a famous aquarium, and is visited by many tourists and locals every year.
You can see many creatures inhabiting Okinawa, including the world’s largest aquarium where whale sharks and manta rays swim.
