Sedake Beach has no rest areas and no jellyfish net.
There are restrooms and a car park, though, so it works well if you simply want to come and see the beach.
Highlights
Great natural rock formations
The naturally formed rocks are what make this beach distinctive.
Trees grow on top of the boulders — a kind of rock formation we had not come across before.
Their scale is hard to judge from photographs, but they felt to us to be around 10 m.
Seen in person, the sheer size of them is genuinely surprising.
Exceptionally clear water
The water was clear and lovely.

Beautiful sand
The sand runs for roughly 500 m and is beautifully clean.
Untouched nature all around
The area around the beach is full of natural landscape.
These great natural boulders are unlike anything we have seen on Okinawa’s west coast.
Walking from the car park down to the beach, you pass along a small path through what feels like a wood.
A lovely approach
The entrance to Sedake Beach is surrounded by trees, and once you are through the path a beautiful beach opens up.
Restrooms and a vending machine
Restrooms and a vending machine are provided.
There were no showers, so anyone planning to swim should check in advance.

Wansaka Oura Park is a roadside-station-style facility selling local vegetables, fruit and souvenirs, with a restaurant where you can stop for lunch.
Local events are held here from time to time, so it is worth a look if you are heading to Sedake Beach.
A rental car is the way to see Okinawa
For getting around Okinawa’s main island, a rental car is by far the best option.
Shuri Castle in Naha, the beautiful beaches of the north, American Village in Chatan — the sights are scattered across the island, and with a car you can take them in at your own pace. Local buses are infrequent and rarely run to time, so having a car makes a real difference to the trip.
Cars fill up quickly in the peak season, so we recommend booking early once your travel dates are set. One important note for overseas visitors: to drive in Japan you must obtain an International Driving Permit (Geneva Convention) in your home country before you depart, and remember that traffic in Japan drives on the left.
