Tsuken Island is a small island in Uruma City, in the central part of Okinawa’s main island.
Ferries and high-speed boats run from the main island, taking about 30 minutes by ferry or 12 minutes by high-speed boat from Heshikiya Port in Uruma City to Tsuken Port.
Tsuken Island is known for its clear blue water and for Tsuken carrots, and has a population of about 350 as of April 2024.
There are facilities for swimming and marine activities that plenty of visitors enjoy, so it suits anyone who wants a lovely beach.

Getting to Tsuken Island
Reaching Tsuken Island is fairly straightforward.

- Head to Heshikiya Port and park at the harbour
- Buy a ticket to Tsuken Island at Heshikiya Port (a return ticket is best)

Here is how the trip actually went for us.
1. Arrive at Heshikiya Port, park in the free car park at the harbour, and buy a ticket at the ferry ticket window.
2. Board the boat. There is a high-speed boat as well as the regular ferry, and staff are on hand to direct you before departure.
3. Arrive at Tsuken Island
That is all there is to getting to Tsuken Island.
