Take real care if you go into the water.
You can swim and snorkel here, but if you would rather be somewhere with a lifeguard, one of the other beaches in Onna Village is the better choice.
What makes it worth the trip
Clear water
The water is exceptionally clear and genuinely beautiful.
There were people swimming in the shallows and snorkeling.
Beautiful natural sand
The sand runs about 200 meters and it is lovely.
It is good sand too, fine enough that walking barefoot causes almost no discomfort.
Snorkeling and swimming
When I went to Kibogaoka Beach, some people were swimming in the shallows and others were snorkeling.
There is no jellyfish net at this beach and no lifeguard, so take real care if you go into the water.
Sunset
The sunset at Kibogaoka Beach is lovely.
Families and couples come down to watch it.
The entrance
The entrance is right by the parking area, and down a flight of steps the beach opens up in front of you.
There is greenery all around, and the atmosphere is unmistakably Okinawan.

Rental cars in Okinawa

The places worth seeing are scattered across the island, from Shuri Castle in Naha to the beautiful beaches of the north and American Village in Chatan, and with a car you can take them at your own pace. Buses are infrequent and do not always run on time, so having a car or not makes a real difference to the trip.
Cars fill up quickly in the peak season, so we recommend booking early once your travel dates are set. One important note for overseas visitors: to drive in Japan you must obtain an International Driving Permit (Geneva Convention) in your home country before you depart, and remember that traffic in Japan drives on the left.
